G Adventures, a leader in international travel, embarked on a journey with us to infuse their brand’s spirit into the design of their new International Office and Contact Centre located in the burgeoning Long Kloof precinct, Gardens, Cape Town. This project was borne out of a strategic need to draw staff back to a centralized workplace as the trend of working from home began to wane. The design’s guiding tenets were harmoniously aligned with G Adventures’ foundational values: Love, Lead, Embrace, Create, and Do.
Upon entry, a prominently branded wall heralds the entrance into the office, signaling a realm where work and inspiration coalesce. The breakout area, positioned to the left, invites open collaboration, whereas the operational floor to the right is tastefully segregated by planter screens, fostering a connective yet distinct work environment. Desk clusters are intelligently organized by team functions, while focus spaces and meeting rooms are strategically placed towards the rear for privacy, with an additional meeting room perched on the mezzanine level, accessible via an elegant spiral staircase.
The architectural nuances of the existing structure played a pivotal role in shaping our design approach. Ingenuity and sustainability were key, with a commitment to repurposing materials and celebrating them within the design, including the conservation of the original timber flooring. The decision to expose services was twofold: preserving the expansive feel of the office space and enhancing its bright and airy quality. This minimalist and cost-efficient strategy dovetails with G Adventures’ ethos and emphasizes distinctive design elements like bespoke signage.
The office’s visual narrative is an interplay of G Adventures’ brand identity, with lively bursts of purple amidst a predominantly white interior, crafting a dynamic and engaging environment. Design details such as window decals, desk privacy screens, areas featuring astro turf, and a striking hanging art installation in the breakout area all contribute to a workspace that is both playful and professional. These elements are a testament to the energetic and adventurous nature of G Adventures’ brand philosophy.
In summary, the design for G Adventures’ International Contact Centre is a seamless integration of practicality and creative vision. It skillfully overcomes the inherent challenges of the building’s structure while creating a visual expression that vividly brings the company’s values to life, culminating in a workspace that vibrates with the brand’s dynamic essence.
