KnowBe4, a frontrunner in the cybersecurity domain, engaged us to bring their new office in Cape Town’s bustling Gardens neighbourhood to life. Situated in the vibrant Longkloof precinct, the headquarters are envisioned as a hub of innovation and collaboration for their local team. The design intent was to craft an environment that draws staff back into the office, offering a compelling counterpoint to remote working arrangements.
The reception area, a nod to their international presence, ushers visitors into a global network. Adjacent to this, the pause area is set apart from the bustling production floor by a series of meeting spaces, each varying in size. The kitchen’s minimalistic design is purpose-built for functionality and catering to larger gatherings. Meeting rooms along the pause area are shielded by thoughtfully placed industrial materials, blending privacy with openness. The operational floor is meticulously segmented into clusters, tailored to accommodate the diverse workflows of different teams. Generous desk arrangements with dividers ensure privacy and personal space. Above, a substantial mezzanine level bridges the gap between work and relaxation, contributing to a balanced work environment.
The office’s aesthetic thoughtfully preserves the character of the historical and industrial building, integrating its architectural essence into the design. The space breaks from traditional corporate motifs, employing inventive materials like PVC pipes and rebar to demarcate distinct areas economically. Flooring finishes vary to delineate zones, enhancing the office’s visual flow. The ambiance is enriched with strategic plant placements and timber accents, while tailored lighting and bulkhead designs maximize the impact of the lofty double-volume space. Corporate identity resonates throughout, with a prominent use of orange echoing their brand palette. Signage and branding are carefully calibrated to reflect their international stature.
This meticulously curated space is more than a physical location; it’s a magnet for talent, inviting the team into an energizing setting that fosters a vigorous work culture. It’s a testament to design as a conduit for collaboration, ingenuity, and employee fulfilment.
