Founded in 1946 by Sir Ove Arup, an engineer-philosopher, the Arup firm has been at the forefront of the most ambitious and challenging design and engineering projects for over seven decades.
Designing the workspace for a firm such as this requires a unique understanding of their values and goals, but also a deep appreciation for what they do and how they do it.
Sir Ove Arup’s main conviction was that a more collaborative and open-minded approach to engineering would lead to greater quality work and enduring relevance.
We agree with this conviction wholeheartedly and it formed the basis of our approach for the project.
The design of the workspace is aimed at reminding users of that collaborative philosophy while creating an environment where this way of working could thrive.
Guests arriving at the new Arup offices are greeted by a striking reception area, exhibiting a subtle juxtaposition in terms of style and texture. The industrial feel of concrete floor, stucco wall, and exposed soffit both contrasts and compliments the softer organic lines of the reception counter, sofa, and carpet.
The result is a dynamic client-facing area that is sophisticated and vibrant.
